Kambo

Kambo is a traditional medicine that has been used for thousands of years by many indigenous cultures in the Amazon. Kambo circulates in the heart and helps clear negative physical and mental energies. It is used to increase the body’s natural ability to heal itself by eliminating toxins through the lymphatic system and fortifying the immune system. Known as the “vaccine of the forest,” Kambo has also gained recognition outside of the Amazon as a powerful healing modality.

Research conducted since the 1980s has shown the chemical makeup of kambo to contain short chains of amino acids, known as peptides, that affect gastrointestinal muscles and blood circulation as well as stimulate the adrenal cortex and pituitary gland in the brain. The properties of kambo peptides suggest it may be a promising treatment for the following conditions:

  • Depression

  • Migraines

  • Blood circulation problems

  • Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease

  • Vascular insufficiency

  • Organ diseases

  • Cancer

  • Fertility problems

  • Deeply rooted toxins

  • Chronic pain

  • Addiction to opiate or prescription painkillers (Kambo reduces physical pain, thus helping people kick their addictions to other painkillers)

  • Fever and infections

  • Negative energies (traditionally known as “panema”)

Kendyl is trained and certified by the International Association of Kambo Practitioners (IAKP). She offers ceremonies integrated with pranayama (breathwork), meditation, yoga nidra (deep relaxation), Reiki and sound healing.

She was trained in a number of different traditional ways to serve Kambo and has also been trained to work with the Meridians, the Chakras, Nadis and Marma Points and even the ears – Auricular Kambo. Added to this, she has also studied new techniques to allow people to take Kambo in a way that is gentler on their system but still allows them to enjoy the maximum benefits.

The IAKP has a direct relationship with the Matses tribes in Peru where our Kambo is ethically sourced. The IAKP are currently working to provide better educational and health care resources to the remote communities of the Matses tribe and also support a small community deep in the Brazilian rainforest. In the Amazon, kambo is traditionally collected early in the morning, when the giant monkey frogs are singing and can easily be found. Without harming the frogs, the secretion is collected and the frog is released.

The only established way for Kambo to be taken is through the skin. When you are ready, 3 or more small dots on your upper arm, ankle, or preferred spot will be burned with an incense stick in order to peel the top layer of epidermis. The Kambo is then mixed with water to form a gel and a single test point will be applied to assess your response and sensitivity.  When the sensation has passed, additional points will be added. The immediate effects of kambo are intense and unpleasant but short-lived, usually lasting no more than 30-40 minutes. The most difficult part lasts between 10-15 minutes. They include a feverish rise in temperature, sweating, shivers, and dizziness as the heart rate becomes rapid. The blood pressure may rise or fall dramatically, accompanied by an increased awareness of the veins and arteries. Nausea is generally unavoidable with Kambo and purging is likely.

After these initial effects have worn off and the heart rate has returned to normal, it is nice to rest. Some fall into a dreamless sleep. Your experience may feel enhanced following the kambo purge. You may feel great physical strength, sharpened senses, and heightened mental alertness. Desirable after-effects like these may take a day to materialize or they could be immediate. They also tend to include a consistently elevated mood, increased physical and mental energy, decreased stress, and enhanced focus. In the coming days after a treatment, it’s certainly not uncommon for people to report having clarity of mind, clearing of emotional baggage, heightened awareness and focus, resilience to stress and fatigue, reduced illness, an increased sense of
energy and well-being, and even more clarity to their life path.
We have seen a great benefit from those that choose to do multiple sessions in a row, specifically on their first time using kambo. Many people choose to do 3 days in a row for deep shifts – or within a short period of time. Others choose to do 3 sessions within a 28-day period (or moon cycle). This allows the body to go deeper with their own healing – as the kambo works in an accumulative way when treatments are closer together.

After Kambo...

"My body loved it so much! I had some health issues — serious ones — and kambô cleared everything on every level. It bought me back to myself, it empowered me and strengthened me in ways that nothing else had... It opened up my senses and allowed me to live the way I do today." -Karen Kanya Darke, Founder of IAKP
